TOORAK APARTMENT

This heritage listed Toorak apartment ‘Caringal flats’ building is an architectural icon designed by Architect John William Rivett.

The humble two bedroom apartment owned by a chef and photographer couple was in serious need of modernising but respecting the building fabric and original design intent was paramount.

During the planning stage it was decided to consider retaining some of the original kitchen joinery as a means of respecting the original character of the space. With not one wall being straight - the floor plan forms part of a larger radius - some subtle modifications were necessary to improve the quality of the spaces.

The light filled apartment was given a new lease of life with new flooring, paint , door furniture , robe, bathroom , kitchen and loose furniture.

The palette is soft with pale timber, white and grey tones.

My stone tables (sides-sides.com) were also purchased by the client for this project with the long coffee table ‘STAY THERE TOO’ in silver travertine being custom made specifically for the owner.
